Family Reunification Permit for Romania

This is the area with the most number of client base for MÖVE►, and we are able to swiftly handle and process your right to stay in Romania, and regain family unity. This service is primarily aimed at non-EU citizens who wish to enter Romania in order to regain family unity.

The following categories of individuals can request residence permits for family reunification:

  • Foreigners married to Romanian citizens.
  • Foreigners cohabiting with Romanian citizens, if they have at least one child together, hereinafter called partners. For applicants with a child together, the case is more complex, as it is prone to intense scrutiny from IGI, in order to establish if the partnership is an authentic one.
  • Children of the Romanian citizen, of the husband / wife or of the partner, including adopted ones, who have not turned 21 years or who are supported by the Romanian citizen, by the husband / wife or by the partner.

The application process

The request to obtain a long term visa for family reunification should be submitted to the territorial units of the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) in order to obtain approval. A reply to the request will be received within a 90-day period.

The long stay visa for family reunification can be obtained from Romanian diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad by submitting the answer from the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI).

Once you arrive in Romania, family members are required to obtain a residence permit. The application for residence permit will be solved in 30 days after having been submitted. Extension of the residence right/permit is made for each family member separately for a maximum period of up to 5 years. After 5 years you can apply for the Permanent Residency permit, followed by the Citizenship application.

Family members can enroll in any form of education, following standard procedure and a set of rules and regulations applicable to Romanian citizens. They also have an open job-market, and does not need additional work permit to be legally employed in Romania.
